A tribute to one of our own:

Gayle was born in Colorado Springs on January 15, 1941. After retiring from Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies, she dedicated herself to the preservation and protection of wildlife. For the past 25 years, Gayle was licensed by the federal government and by the State of Colorado as a wildlife rehabilitator and was recognized and respected worldwide as a spokesman for the humane treatment of wildlife. On September 19, 2009 Gayle passed away in the Aspen Living Center from complications after suffering a stroke. She was preceded in death by her father, Fred "Chick" Kegin (born in Burlington Junction, Missouri), but survived by mother Rosemary Kegin of Peyton, her daughter Randie, two grandchildren Ross and Ryan (Phoenix, Arizona), sister Donna Krack of Peyton, and her nephew Jace Braun and his daughter Bailey of Battlement Mesa, Colorado. Private services are planned. Donations may be sent to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region; 610 Abbott Lane, Colorado Springs, CO 80905

fGayle Hoenig was one of our own, a volunteer of passion and commitment to both humanitarian issues and wildlife across the globe. Her commitment and tireless effort is a debt that can never be repayed. Her commitment to make a deference in the world affected change in the lives of many. She held a belief that where there is a will there is a way, and even in the darkest hours we must hold close to our hope for without that we are lost in a dismal abyss. It is a hope and a belief that she gave to all who knew her or crossed her path. She inspired you to be more than you thought you could be and moved you with words that reached the core of your soul. She made you want to be more than you were and to move constantly towards something greater. To know her was to look to the stars, where among thousands she shined brighter than most. On September 19, 2009, Gayle gave up the ghost and we lost a courageous heart. Our own are now filled with a void that can never be filled, nor would we try, but we will hang on to that which she gave us. The hope to change the world and those around us. May she shine her light with a gentle smile on all of us, with her touch telling us to move forward and never never give up the fight. A light so powerful could never be put out by a simple thing like death.

Our condolences to her family, loved ones, and friends across the globe.
